About the session
Join Dr James van Oppen, our special international guest speaker from the UK who will discuss person-centred care in geriatric emergency medicine. He will explore:
- Historical and contemporary notions and validation of the frailty construct
- Limitations of evidence and healthcare guidelines in the context of frailty
- Combining evidence with person-centredness to reach decisions in acute frailty care
About Dr James van Oppen
James is a Clinical Lecturer in Emergency Medicine conducting research at the University of Sheffield and practising clinically at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, UK. His research and clinical interests both stem from improving healthcare experiences and outcomes for older people who are living with frailty.
Pathways and protocols are used extensively in emergency care, but James has long been aware that these do not work so well for someone with frailty, and so he is interested in how we make, enact, and measure the effects of person-centred and pragmatic decisions.
