Frailty and Ageing in Prison Populations

Join us to learn about strategies to improve healthcare in correctional facilities.

This seminar will explore the challenges of frailty among incarcerated individuals.

The speakers will discuss the physical, mental, and social aspects of frailty, the impact of incarceration on health, and the increased risk for adverse events among prison inmates.

This seminar is presented by the Australian Frailty Network (AFN) and the Queensland Dementia, Ageing and Frailty Clinical Network (QDAF).

Speakers

Dr Jane (Ye In) Hwang

Jane Hwang is a mixed-methods researcher interested in tackling health equity and social determinants. She leads a suite of NHMRC-funded projects which seek to understand and respond to the ageing of justice-involved individuals in Australia through a variety of methodologies including longitudinal cohorts, digital tool design and stakeholder consensus building.

Ms Karryn Crothall

Karryn is a social worker working with people living with dementia and their supporters for twenty-one years. She is completing a Master of Dementia, and is motivated to help people living with dementia to maximise quality of life and agency.

Mr Heydon Manuel

Heydon has been a primary healthcare nurse at Prison Health Services West Moreton Health for 10 years and is currently pursuing a Master of Research, with a thesis focused on “Older People and Incarceration: The Challenges Faced by Nurses Caring for Older Adults in Prison”.
